Red Lace Jumpsuit

I always enjoy hosting dinners and cocktail parties, but it’s not often enough that I get to do it for a good cause. Last week I had the distinct pleasure of bringing together some of Miami’s top fashion bloggers, (also my dear friends,) for a dinner with the Miami Children’s Health Foundation. We gathered at the gorgeous new Downtown Miami hotspot, River Yacht Club, and enjoyed a delicious meal while learning about the Foundation’s latest initiative. The night was all about the heart of Nicklaus Children's Hospital, so it was only appropriate that I wore red.

Together for the Children is MCHF’s new social media campaign which aims to educate the community about the wonderful work done by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital via a profile photo filter on Facebook. As a Miami native, I can attest to the amazing things the hospital does for sick children in Miami and beyond. Outside of a common virus or a broken bone, I thankfully don’t recall making many hospital visits as a child. The few times emergencies did arise, Nicklaus (formerly Miami Children’s Hospital,) was the first place my mom trusted and that I wasn’t scared to go to. That’s because Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is a world leader in pediatric healthcare, and South Florida’s only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children.

During dinner, we had the opportunity to meet the Foundation’s Patient of the Month, Alessandra, who is as brilliant and brave as she is beautiful. Her model looks and sweet smile would never give it away, but she is recovering from an invasive spinal surgery that threatened her career as a professional tennis player before it ever began. Doctors told her she might never play again, but a week prior to our dinner, Alessandra was back on the tennis court. She credits the care and therapy she received at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital with saving her life and preparing her for a new normal.

I know you’re on Facebook, so please join me in supporting the Foundation by filling the social network with hearts . Click here to update your profile photo with the iconic heart logo designed by MCHF Ambassador Romero Britto.
