How to Avoid a Makeup Meltdown

I often get asked how I keep my makeup looking fresh in South Florida's extreme temperatures, so I teamed up with Clinique & Latina Bloggers Connect to share one of my favorite summer beauty looks and the products that keep my face shine and melt-proof.

Holy, humidity! Even Miami lifers like me never get used to it; we just learn to deal. Miami Swim Week just wrapped up and each year it feels less like enjoyable work, and more like the fashion hunger games. The challenge: look put together and maintain your composure in sweltering temps while running back and forth between meetings, presentations, and fashion shows with barely any time to eat. Oh, and try to avoid the rain which can happen at any unexpected moment, including during an open-air fashion show.

The key to my stay-put makeup is a light and breathable foundation application, and setting it with an oil-free powder and makeup setting spray. I like my skin to look fresh and luminous, so I don't typically use powder on a daily basis. However, if I'm having my photo taken or attending an event using powder is a must. For Swim Week, Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Powder was my MVP. After finishing my makeup (product details below), I applied the Stay-Matte Powder lightly across my t-zone with a fluffy powder brush followed by a generous spritz of makeup setting spray. The medium shade is a perfect match for my skin tone, and is so ultra-sheer that it still allows my skin to glow without looking unfinished. My favorite thing about this powder is that no matter how many times I retouch my nose or forehead it never looks heavy or caked on.  (That is never a cute look.)

During the summer months, my go-to beauty is an all over bronze glow with a bright lip. For this look I used Clinique True Bronze Powder on my temples, cheekbones, and eyes (instead of eye shadow), and created a custom lip-color by mixing Clinique Color Pop lipstick in poppy & melon. To brighten my eyes, I like to line my waterline with Nars eyeliner in Rue Bonaparte. Last but not least, my face is never complete without filling my brows with Anastasia Brow Wiz and a generous application of mascara.
