Funkshion Fashion Week Miami took place last month at Studio255 in Wynwood with a showcase of designers and brands including blogger favorite Style Mafia, Alessandra Gold, Hamel by Melina Harris, celebrity stylist Calyann Barnett, and a presentation from the students at the Miami Int'l University of Art & Design. I was in attendance to cover the shows as a correspondent for FashionOne and got full backstage access to chat with the models, designers, and hair and makeup pros.
On this afternoon, the students from MIU presented their final projects on the runway - and I was blown away. One of my favorites was Jorjo Graterol who was honored with the Collection Award for his Primrose Mini Collection. He presented not one, but two beautiful illusion dresses that were embroidered with cascading canary yellow lace flowers. While the illusion style is not groundbreaking, the execution of each garment was perfection. The delicate nature of the design could have easily turned out a cheap mesh mess, but Graterol's skill didn't fail him. With a keen eye for luxury and an ultra chic aesthetic, this Venezuelan blogger/designer is definitely one to watch.
I (unintentionally) wore a total Zara look, which turned out to be one of my favorite recent outfits. The orange pumps and cut-out shoulder blouse are both under $100 and still available online. (I linked them below.) Baby blue and bright orange is one of my favorite color combos for spring; it's just fresh. I finished off my outfit with a gold choker necklace I picked up at Aldo for $12 - a total steal.
