Snake Charmer

Is it winter or spring? A seemingly easy question, unless you live in Miami. On Monday I was wearing this Express crop top and high waisted pants, and today I’m breaking out my chunky knits and “heavy coat” as we brace for record cold temps in the 40’s! This python print is quite apropos, because much like a snake I can’t wait to shed all these layers and get back to my cropped ensembles.

Yes, the crop top is back for another season. I can’t deny I’m partial to showing my midriff – it happens to be flattering on my petite frame. I’ve always been a proponent for CT’s (crop tops) and I’ve said it countless times that women of all ages can rock them. Warning: this is not a blanket statement; there is a fine line between looking cute and crass. The key is to pair the CT with a bottom that (1) is high-waisted, and (2) balances the proportion of your upper-body. Pairing a CT with a skirt or pant with a high-rise actually creates a slimming effect by accentuating the smallest part of your waist. (Hello, skinny trick!) If you’re a busty babe, an A-line or full skirt, or flared jeans are your best bet. Take a note from T. Swift and avoid baring your belly button, por favor.

I love that this coordinating crop top and high waisted pants from Express gives the illusion of a chic jumpsuit when paired together. The monochromatic snakeskin print has a 70s vibe, which is a huge trend for spring. Since the print is so overpowering, I kept the accessories neutral with a luxe-look tasseled clutch, (my new favorite,) and versatile nude sandals. My silver necklace looks almost like a collar and added a cool bohemian touch.
